The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully flight-tested the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR) at its user-defined minimum range of 60 km.
The rocket was launched from an in-service Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL).
The Pinaka LRGR has a maximum range of 120 km and has been developed as a precision-guided munition for the Pinaka MBRL system.
It complements existing Pinaka rocket variants that provide different engagement ranges while using the same launcher platform.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the trial as a major milestone in India’s indigenous capability to design and develop long-range guided rockets.
The Pinaka LRGR has been designed and developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), both DRDO laboratories.
The maiden flight test of the Pinaka LRGR was conducted on 29 December 2025, when its maximum range of 120 km. was successfully demonstrated
The Pinaka MBRL comprises two rocket pods, each carrying launcher tubes arranged in a 2×3 configuration. The system can fire a salvo of 12 rockets in approximately 44 seconds.
