Finland-based synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite operator ICEYE has established an Indian entity, ICEYE India, in New Delhi, as the company prepares to expand its presence in India’s space and defence sector.
ICEYE CEO and Co-Founder Rafal Modrzewski said ICEYE India would bring engineering and manufacturing capabilities to the country while supporting Indian requirements for sovereign intelligence capabilities.
The company provides persistent Earth observation and monitoring capabilities, using SAR satellites to collect intelligence in all weather conditions, day or night.
ICEYE also offers sovereign satellite systems to governments seeking to operate their own satellite constellations.
ICEYE said India’s evolving space and defence ecosystem is creating increased demand for advanced Earth observation capabilities.
The immediate priority for ICEYE India will be to support Indian defence and intelligence customers with intelligence capabilities and solutions aimed at strengthening national security and resilience.
The company also plans to develop local production capabilities in India, with manufacturing intended to support defence, surveillance and environmental monitoring requirements through local sourcing, Indian suppliers and domestic engineering talent.
ICEYE is exploring partnerships across India’s space and defence ecosystem, including with launch providers, electronics and component manufacturers and other technology companies.
The company said engagement with the Indian ecosystem could include supply-chain participation, technology validation and local capability development.
