The Indian Navy has received three additional Sikorsky MH-60R ‘Seahawk’ naval helicopters, delivered as part of a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) order contracted in 2020.
The new deliveries announced by the U.S. Embassy in India, forms part of an order for 24 MH-60R helicopters. Delivery of all 24 MH-60Rs helicopters were to originally be completed by 2025.
The new helicopters will be inducted into the Navy’s growing MH-60R fleet. Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 334 ‘Seahawks’ was commissioned into service in March 2024 at INS Garuda in Kochi, with six helicopters, followed by INAS 335 ‘Ospreys’ at INS Hansa, Dabolim, Goa, in December 2025.
The MH-60R fleet is being acquired under a contract valued at approximately INR 14,000 crore, with deliveries having commenced in 2021. The MH-60R is the Indian Navy’s primary shipborne multi-role helicopter, undertaking anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, maritime surveillance and search-and-rescue missions.
November 2025, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) awarded Lockheed Martin for a five year, follow-on support and follow-on supply support package for all 24 helicopters worth approximately INR 7,995 crore ($946 million). The agreement includes establishment of domestic intermediate level component repair and periodic maintenance Inspection facilities.
The Indian Navy has already deployed the MH-60R during Operation Sindoor, TROPEX-25 and Tri-Services Exercise 2025.
